The Hibiscus Festival crowns for all the categories have changed from masi to wood.
Vodafone Hibiscus Media Liaison Officer Lice Movono-Rova said they have changed this year’s crowns due to its durability.
Movono-Rova said masi is not as durable as wood and they do not last over two years.
She said the carvings on the crown are special as it depicts our traditional motifs that are used in tattoos, canoes and masi designs.
The carvings on the crowns were done by a Master Carver Setaraki Tukana whose family are traditionally wood carvers from Fulaga in Lau.
Movono-Rova added that they will promote cultural art and craft for years to come and also help in showcasing the talents of young people.
