A heavy rain warning remains in force for Vanua Levu, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, Yasawa, Lomaiviti and Northern Lau group.

The Nadi Weather Office has confirmed that a heavy rain alert remains in force for the rest of Fiji.

A strong wind warning also remains in force for land areas of Vanua Levu, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, Lomaiviti, Yasawa and the Northern Lau group.

It says a trough of low pressure remains slow moving just to the North of Fiji with associated cloud and rain affecting the Northern parts of Fiji till next Monday.

The Weather Office says that the trough is expected to continue moving Southwards and affect the rest of the country by later today.

It says people in Vanua Levu, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, Lomaiviti, Yasawa and Northern Lau group can expect occasional rain, heavy at times and squally thunderstorms.

For the rest of Fiji expect cloudy periods with some showers, isolated thunderstorms with heavy falls in the afternoon or evening with showers expected to increase to rain and possibly become frequent and heavy from today.

Localised heavy falls may lead to flash flooding.

All communities living in flood prone, low‑lying and landslide areas have been urged to remain alert as heavy rain is predicted in the coming days.
