Heavy rain and strong wind warning remain in force for the Fiji Group

A heavy rain warning remains in force for the Fiji Group and a strong wind warning also remains in force for the land areas.

The Nadi Weather Office says a trough of low pressure lies slow moving over Fiji.

The Weather Office says a tropical disturbance was analysed to the far northwest of Fiji, near Vanuatu and is currently slow moving.

The Weather Office says the disturbance is anticipated to possibly intensify into a Tropical Depression, move towards Fiji and the associated cloud, rain and strong winds are expected to affect the country from later today.

People in Vanualevu and nearby smaller islands, Taveuni, Yasawa and the Northen Lau Group can expect periods of rain, heavy at times and thunderstorms.

The Nadi Weather Office says elsewhere people can expect occasional rain, heavy at times thunderstorms with rain becoming frequent and heavy with thunderstorms from the afternoon.

Localised heavy rain may lead to flash flooding.
