A heavy rain alert is now in force for Northern Vanua Levu, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, Southern and Eastern Viti Levu, Kadavu and nearby smaller Islands, Lau and Lomaiviti Group.

The Heavy rain alert is expected to gradually extend to the rest of the Group tomorrow.

The Nadi Weather Office says the country will be experiencing unsettled weather this weekend and early next week as a trough of low pressure with associated cloud and rain moves over Fiji from the north.

A frontal system is moving over the southern parts.

People can expect occasional showers, heavy at times and few thunderstorms today.

Showers will increase to rain and will become frequent and heavy at times from tonight.

Localised heavy rain may lead to flash flooding in the low lying areas.

The Nadi Weather Office is advising people to take alerts, warnings and advisories seriously whenever it is issued and remain prepared at all times.
