A heavy rain alert has been issued for the the Eastern half of Viti Levu which include Rakiraki, Tailevu, Nausori, Naitasiri, Navua, Suva and Pacific Harbour, and Yasawa and Mamanuca Group, Savusavu, Labasa, Udu Point, Taveuni, Natewa Bay, Lau and Lomaiviti Group.
According to the latest report released by the Nadi Weather Office this is caused by a trough of low pressure that remains slow moving over Fiji.
It says that another trough of low pressure is expected to drift towards the Group from the North West later tonight.
The Weather Office says that people can expect occasional rain, heavy at times with a few squally thunderstorms over the areas that are under the heavy rain alert.
It says rain will become frequent and heavy from tomorrow.
For the rest of Fiji, people can expect cloudy periods with some showers with possible thunderstorms especially in the afternoon or evening.
The Weather Office says that showers will intensify from tonight and become frequent and heavy.
Localised heavy rain may lead to flash flooding of low lying areas.
