The government’s decision to increase the Education Budget in 2013 has been questioned in parliament by the Opposition during the debate on recommendations of the report by the Standing Committee on Social Affairs on the 2013 and 2014 Annual Reports of the Education Ministry.
It quickly rose to be an issue of debate after SODELPA MP Viliame Gavoka claimed that the government had increased the budgetary allocation for education just before 2014 for election purposes.
Responding to Gavoka, Acting Prime Minister and Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said that Gavoka should be asking what their party leader did when he was in government.
Parliament unanimously agreed to the recommendations of the Education Report.
