The Ministry of Health and Medical Services will further strengthen health services provided in the maritime and remote health facilities around Fiji.
This was highlighted by the Assistant Minister for Health Alex O’ Connor during a tour of the health facilities in Taveuni this week.
O’Connor visited Taveuni Hospital, Vuna Nursing Station, Vuna Health Centre, Bouma Nursing Station and Qamea Health Centre in the Cakaudrove Province.
He says health facilities in the remote and maritime areas should be prioritised as well.
O’Connor was informed that one of the major challenges in the maritime communities is the accessibility to transportation.
He says the ministry will look into ensuring that vehicles and boats receive proper maintenance in a timely manner to sustain transport services.
O’Connor encouraged the health staff to work collaboratively with the stakeholders and broaden the opportunities for the health sector development.
He also thanked the staff for their dedication and urged them to continue carrying out their duties with diligence and empathy.
The Ministry of Health will continue to assess the health services and facilities through increased visitations to look at the key areas of improvement and development.
