Health and Medical Services Minister Rosy Akbar has stressed that they will continue giving the Human Papilloma Virus Vaccine to year 8 girls.
While responding to Opposition MPs’ repeated questions on whether any review has been undertaken to evaluate the safety of the HPV Vaccine, Akbar told parliament that the vaccine is safe and effective and the program will continue.
She says an estimated 6,000 doses of HPV vaccine has been administered to Fijian girls since it was first introduced in 2013 with no reports of any adverse effects.
The Health Minister says creating more fears in the public regarding the safety of this vaccine will do no good as they need this vaccination program to continue.
