The Ministry of Health and Medical Services will soon be working on a pilot programme which seeks to train nurses on the early detection of Rheumatic Heart Disease in primary schools.
This was highlighted by Fiji's Permanent Representative to the United Nations and Other Organisations in Geneva, Ambassador Nazhat Shameem Khan at the 71st World Health Assembly on a Resolution on Rheumatic Fever and Rheumatic Heart Disease.
Khan also pointed out that this is the first of such an initiative that integrates Rheumatic Heart Disease screening into an existing school outreach programme which the world can learn from.
She says the importance of ensuring a collaborative approach with inclusive and innovative partnerships is a key ingredient in addressing Rheumatic Heart Disease challenges.
