The Ministry of Health has started purchasing some of the medicine from New Zealand and Australia due to the shortage at the public hospital pharmacies.
Assistant Minister for Health Veena Bhatnagar says the Ministry is aware of the shortage of basic medicine and is currently holding talks with relevant stakeholders on how to solve the problem.
Bhatnagar says the supply of medicine is expected to normalise by early next year but for now they are looking to Australia and New Zealand for supply.
She says they have also noticed an increase in the consumption of paracetamol, penicillin and some other antibiotics.
This has contributed to the shortage of medicine.
