The Ministry of Health and Medical Services is on alert and already taking steps to prevent the outbreak of any potential diseases after the recent event of bad weather conditions.
Minister for Health and Medical Services Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete says the health officials have already started to move out in the communities to assess the situation.
Waqainabete says that the Health Ministry has been very fortunate that the weather conditions are not as bad as they expected.
However Waqainabete stressed that with the heavy downpour and people taking shelter at the evacuation centers, there are always possibilities of disease outbreaks adding that their focus is on public health.
He says the health officials are making regular visits to the evacuation centers as well and giving out wash kits to evacuees.
Waqainabete says the kits include water purity tablets, soap and sanitation kit for women and they are also ensuring that there is no overcrowding, inspecting the facilities and places where food materials are kept and cooked.
The Health Minster says they will continue to strengthen their public health capability as there is always a possibility of disease outbreak, so they will be visiting villages inspecting the environment and providing the right advice to people.
