Ministry of Health and Medical Service has made a total of 39 locum appointments to date in order to improve hospital services.
Health Minister, Rosy Akbar says the 39 appointments consist of 29 General Practitioners and 10 Specialists.
Akbar says the Ministry in partnership with the Fiji College of General Practitioners has embarked on the locum appointments to maximise efficiency in health services through reducing the patient waiting time.
She says based on the current arrangements, the General Practitioners are paid a rate of $50 while specialists are paid $80.
Locum appointments are provided at the CWM Hospital, Tamavua Twomey Hospital, St. Giles, Lautoka Hospital, Labasa Hospital, Central Health Services, Makoi Health Center, Samabula Health Centre, Lami Health Center, Raiwaqa Health Centre and the Valelevu Health Center.
Akbar says similar arrangements have been made for the health facilities in the western division which includes Lautoka and Labasa Hospitals, Nadi, Sigatoka, Namaka and Ba.
She confirms that the CWM Hospital has recently received 3 locum doctors who have been providing their services as of September, last year.
