Acting Prime Minister and Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says he is frustrated after hearing the complaints about the Ministry of Health because he says the Ministry is not implementing what the government wants it to implement.
Sayed-Khaiyum said this at a road show organised for civil servants at Kshatriya Hall when a nurse asked him why they are not paid for working on public holidays.
He says the General Orders are supposed to be followed by all the ministries but they do not follow them.
The employee had said that if someone was rostered to work on a public holiday, they are not paid but can take days off.
Sayed-Khaiyum said that nothing in the General Orders had changed to that effect and the Ministry of Health had decided to do that on their own.
He apologised to the people who were suffering due to this.
Sayed-Khaiyum said the existing General Orders are being reviewed.
