The Health Ministry is forming cluster groups that will allow communities to have safe access and practices towards water and sanitation.
While addressing the participants of the WASH Cluster Coordination Training, Health Minister Jone Usamate said communities need access to safe drinking water, adequate sanitation and hygiene even after natural disasters.
He said safe and adequate water with sufficient sanitation and good hygiene are promptly provided to affected communities, to prevent the risks of disease outbreaks.
He said an estimated 347,000 people were affected by Tropical Cyclone Winston including 120,000 children and many lost access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene services with an estimated 250,000 people in need of WASH assistance including people in evacuation centres and children in schools.
The five day training will bring forth better capacities, more efficient and clear evidence based strategies, into building health resilient communities.
