The Ministry of Health and Medical Services held a consultation Workshop with its stakeholders yesterday to seek views and gather suggestions on the health sectors current systems and service delivery.
Present at the workshop, the CEO of the Consumer Council of Fiji, Premila Kumar said that questions were asked if there is a government procurement system because there is always a shortage of drugs and consumable.
Kumar highlighted that reports are now indicating that the Ministry of Health often end up with expired drugs.
She said that money is been used to buy drugs which are not being used and it is wasting tax payers money.
Kumar questioned as to how Ministry of Health and Medical Services will deal with this problem.
While answering to Kumar, Deputy Secretary for Hospital Services said that internal processes are involved in securing or procurement of medications.
Kumar added that the response from the Ministry is unsatisfactory.
The workshop is held for the stakeholders to provide an overview of the draft of 2015 annual corporate plan strategies.
