Health Minister Rosy Akbar has confirmed that she has received a complaint regarding Lautoka Hospital and the Ministry is looking into the matter.

A man from Lautoka has lodged a complaint with the Health Ministry's helpline that his son was refused to be seen at the emergency ward at the Lautoka Hospital this morning.

The man contacted us saying he went to the Lautoka Hospital to get medical attention for his six-month-old son who was suffering from high fever.

The father says that upon arriving at the hospital's emergency ward at 6.30am, he was advised by the security guard that he needs to go to the general outpatients department.

The man says when he reached the general outpatients department, the ward was closed and when he returned to the emergency ward, he was advised to come back to the Lautoka hospital at 8am.

He stated that he had informed the security guard that his child needed immediate attention as his son was shivering.

The father says he had no choice but to go to a private doctor.

Meanwhile, the Ministry has clarified that the Lautoka Hospital emergency department operates 24 hours while the general outpatients department provides services from 8am to midnight.
