Health Minister Doctor Ifereimi Waqainabete came to the rescue of a known stroke patient after he was found down the creek off the slope off Holland Street in Suva today.

Fijivillage has received confirmation that the man was walking along Holland Street last night and fell down the hill and landed near the creek.

He tried to get up however it was difficult for him as he is a stroke patient.

The man kept calling for help and some people finally heard him at about 8 o’clock this morning.

Police were then notified.

Health Minister Doctor Waqainabete was on his way back to his office after attending a prayer breakfast with the Australian Prime Minister when he noticed what was happening on Holland Street.

We witnessed Doctor Waqainabete quickly getting off and running down the hill off Holland Street to assist the stroke patient.

He worked with Police and National Fire Authority officers to take the man safely to CWM Hospital.

When Fijivillage contacted Doctor Waqainabete, he said that he would like to take his hat off to the people who assisted the man.

He says fortunately, the man did not receive any serious injuries and is recovering at CWM Hospital.

The Health Minister says he is still a doctor at the end of the day, and it is always his duty to assist people in need.
