The Suva City Council and the Land Transport Authority is expected to map out harsher penalties on bus drivers who do not turn off their engines when dropping off and picking up passengers from the bus station.
Fijivillage has observed that drivers do not turn off their engines when they are parked at the bus station.
SCC CEO Bijay Chand says this has been an ongoing problem despite having signs for drivers to turn off their engine at the bus station.
Chand says they will meet with LTA to determine how best they can solve the problem.
LTA CEO Naisa Tuinaceva says they will start enforcing harsh penalties to ensure that this practice stops.
