The HMAS Canberra has brought in about 60 tonnes of relief supplies.
The 27,500 tonnes naval ship, constructed in Spain and Australia, entered service in late 2014 and can carry over a hundred vehicles and eighteen helicopters.
Commander Australian Amphibious Task Group Captain Brett Sonter says they have brought about 1,000 personnel with some already out in the affected areas conducting aerial surveys.
Captain Sonter says they have brought in relief supplies like food, water and shelter.
Captain Sonter says they are also doing aerial surveys of the affected areas for the Fijian government.
He also says the ship which is just one year old is also on her first deployment and they are proud to be able to provide assistance to the people of Fiji.
Meanwhile Lieutenant Colonel and Land Force Commander Australian Army, Michael Bassingthwaighte says they will also provide building materials and assist in building houses.
Private Apaitia Matalau of the Australian Army who has links to Fiji says he is proud to be on the HMAS Canberra providing assistance to Fijians.
Matalau says they are expected to also travel to his village in Qamea Taveuni.
The HMAS Canberra will be in Fiji for one month and they will first travel to Koro to provide relief supplies before moving to Taveuni.
The Australian Navy Ship HMAS Canberra arrived today with 60 tonnes of relief supplies bound to leave for Koro and Taveuni to assist those affected by TC Winston.
