The Governor of Guam Eddie Calvo says the United States has reassured him of its protection in the event of a North Korean missile attack.
This came after a war of words between the US and North Korea.
North Korea said it was "carefully examining" a plan to strike the US territory, which hosts major American airforce and naval bases, and a Terminal High Altitude Area Defense.
The statement came just hours after the US President Donald Trump told North Korea that any threat would be met with "fire and fury".
In a special address Calvo called for calm saying he had been in touch with the Whitehouse.
He says an attack or threat on Guam is an attack or threat on the United States.
