The Vision Fiji Group is calling for further support to help in its nationwide reading program “Read to Lead Fiji” deliver over 185,000 books to all of Fiji’s 732 primary schools.
Vision Fiji Chair Lynda Tabuya said after launching the first phase they will be sending the reading books through the Ministry of Education to 330 primary schools but they have 402 remaining schools to assist.
Tabuya said the aim of the initiative is to ensure that by the end of Year 5, children are able to accomplish the art of reading and comprehension.
Tabuya said they are calling on the Government, private sector and the public to assist them in creating this generational change as there is an urgent need to secure further funding to this end.
The schools will receive an instant library called an “Everyday Books Box Library” that includes 250 books at different reading levels, teaching resources, a CD-ROM, activity guides and lesson plans for teachers.
