The Japanese government has today provided assistance of $417,641 to three recipients under its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects Program.

Ambassador Masahiro Omura presented a grant contract of $95,669 to Gospel School for the Deaf for the provision of a school bus,  a grant contract of $154,092 which will provide an ambulance to Labasa Divisional Hospital and a grant contract of $167,880 to Nausori Special School which will see the upgrade of the school.

Head Teacher of Nausori Special School Salesh Deo says the funding will be used to extend the school with three additional classrooms.

Deo says according to his research, many children with special needs from the Tailevu, Naitasiri and Rewa provinces do not attend a special needs school.

He says he has enrolled about 30 students who will start receiving special needs education once the project is completed.

Deo says the school currently has about 60 students, 7 civil servant teachers, 2 support staff and one Early Childhood Education teacher.

He says the ministry will provide 3 more teachers once the project is completed.
