Government will ensure that people living with disabilities are treated with respect and equality as stipulated in the constitution.
This was highlighted by the Acting Prime Minister and Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed‑Khaiyum while officiating at the closing of the International Week for the Deaf in Suva.
Sayed Khaiyum says for the first time in Fiji, there is a constitution that recognizes the rights of people living with disabilities.
The Acting Prime Minister says government has been working with various associations to be able to address some of the issues that affect people living with disabilities.
He says they will want to work with the citizens of Fiji to ensure that they do not get discriminated and that they live freely as Fijians.
