Minister for Agriculture Inia Seruiratu and Opposition Leader Ro Teimumu Kepa

The Leader of Government in Parliament Inia Seruiratu says the government will make ministerial statements in parliament although the Opposition Leader Ro Teimumu Kepa is hoping that this week’s sitting is not dominated by ministerial statements.

Ro Teimumu says the ministerial statements are monologues, most times repeating tired old lines and serve no useful purpose.

She says the opposition wants robust debates Monday to Thursday on critical issues and will file motions covering the Tertiary Education Loans Scheme; queues at Banks; fencing at Government House; resourcing the Police; moneylending; compensation for resource owners for film production; railway network for densely populated areas; National Health Commission and the reinstatement of the Ratu Sukuna Day.

Ro Teimumu says the four days belong to the Fiji First Government and it is up to them to include what they want in the Order Paper but they hope they don’t throw out the opposition’s motions and fill up those days with inconsequential items.

She says people deserve the best from their Parliament and the Opposition is geared up to delivering on what they expect.

However Inia Seruiratu says ministerial statements are made to present facts to the people on what the government is doing.

He says this will continue.
