Pregnant women who cannot give birth in the maritime islands and rural areas will soon be assisted by the government when they are transferred to the Suva’s CWM Hospital, Lautoka or Labasa Hospital.

This was after the Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama found out in Kadavu last Thursday that many mothers have been referred to the CWM Hospital due to other sicknesses they have during pregnancy which includes high blood pressure, diabetes, less blood while giving birth, those who gave birth for the first time and those who gave birth to their fourth child.

Bainimarama said government will look into options of getting the machines which doctors in the rural can operate to assist mothers or build hostels in urban areas to accommodate them.

The Prime Minister hinted that if mothers are transferred to Suva, Lautoka or Labasa then the government is responsible of paying for their boat fare, meal and accommodation.

He said this is also done to avoid mothers in facing tough while living with their relatives in urban areas.
