Minister for Industry, Trade and Tourism Faiyaz Koya says the Government has provided a budget of close to $5 million to the Ministry for the development of the VanuaGIS.
While opening the Fiji Geospatial Information Council meeting, Koya says the Ministry of Lands and Mineral Resources is provided with the budget over the past 3 years for the modernization of their datum, the purchase of satellite images and a mapping drone.
Koya says that the Geographical Information System (GIS) is an important tool in many sectors and industries which include utilities, disaster management, urban and regional planning, climate and green growth.
Koya has also stated that the VanuaGIS will serve as a repository for fundamental data which will be hosted by the Information Technology and Computing services, purely to display and analyze data.
He encouraged the participants to provide all the information they have as it would assist greatly with the projects they are doing.
