Fifty former retired female civil servants who had lost their 10 years of benefits after marriage were yesterday compensated for their loss by the government.
Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama said for this group of women they were deemed to resign for a day and then they were reappointed and the clock for pension only started ticking then.
Bainimarama said some women worked for 10 years, got married and upon re-appointment were employed for another 15 years as a civil servant before eventually retiring.
He further said that upon retirement the pension draw down entitlement was only for the 15 years post marriage.
