The government is asking residents living near the Naboro Landfill for patience as they try to control the stench that has started to occur from the facility.
Acting Director for Environment, Aminiasi Qareqare said the stench is from the rubbish collected through the recent rainy period.
He said a special team is now working on controlling the stench and also ensuring that international best practices are used to treat the rubbish at the landfill.
Qareqare stressed that the stench is not being caused by a new chemical used by landfill operators and they continue to carry out monthly inspections.
The Naboro landfill was opened in 2005 to replace the Lami dump which also had a common stench that affected daily commuters and nearby residents.
