The Government may soon fine tune the electoral laws in the country.
This has been revealed by Attorney General and General Secretary of the Fiji First, Aiyaz Sayed‑Khaiyum at the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Justice Law and Human Rights meeting which is looking at the recommendations of the Multi-National Observer Group and Electoral Commission Election Reports.
Sayed-Khaiyum says the Supervisor of Elections has written to the Attorney General’s Office and they will look at making some amendments to the conduct of the elections.
Sayed-Khaiyum says the Fiji First found a lot of fundamental flaws with the Electoral Commission and the observations that they have made.
He highlighted that Fiji has been given recognition by the international community in terms of the way the 2014 election was conducted.
He says the percentage of invalid votes were 0.07% and the elections had a very high voter turnout.
National Federation Party Leader, Professor Biman Prasad also made submissions to the committee.
Prasad says they strongly believe the Standing Committee on Jutsice and Law and Human Rights incorporate all recommendations of the Multi Natiional Obseror Group and Electoral Commission Reports in its Report.
