The Government is looking to have a separate lane for buses that can help address the traffic congestion.
This has been highlighted by the Acting Prime Minister and Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed‑Khaiyum while speaking at the Fiji Bus Operators Association Convention at Novotel Lami.
Sayed‑Khaiyum stressed that there is no doubt that traffic congestion is already being felt in the Suva‑Nausori as well as from Nadi to Lautoka.
He adds that by comparison today instead of 6,000 second hand vehicles Fiji has over 10,000 vehicles that have been registered in one year.
Sayed‑Khaiyum says that there is also a need to have wider roads and works for this is already in the pipeline.
The Acting Prime Minister also highlighted that another way to help reduce traffic is for people to travel via public transportation.
