“Going on strike should be the last resort because it is an irresponsible act”
These were the words of Land Transport Authority CEO Naisa Tuinaceva following plans announced by the Nikhil bus company in Sigatoka to go on strike from today.
The bus company in Sigatoka plans to go on strike after the LTA board terminated its service license to a number of routes.
Tuinaceva says the license was terminated because the bus company was not providing full service due to fleet problems and the Authority has received a number of complaints from the public.
Tuinaceva adds through their investigation they have also established that the company is incapable of continuing it’s service.
He says the company is taking a very big risk if it goes on strike today.
He adds the Board is currently reviewing the company’s report in renewing the company’s bus route license.
Meanwhile, Nikhil Bus Company Director Deo Sankar says they are frustrated with the result although they have abided by all the requirements from the Authority.
Deo says although other bus companies are servicing the Kavanagasau and the Valley road they are ceasing their bus service because of the cost they are incurring.
