It’s the ending fans of the Game of Thrones book series have been waiting almost a decade for — and George R.R Martin now is prepared to go extreme lengths to finish it.

The author is still to write the last two books in the A Song of Ice and Fire series, with the latest instalment, A Dance with Dragons, coming out in 2011.

The delay meant the Game of Thrones TV series outstripped the books, with show creators DB Weiss and David Benioff forced to come up with their own conclusion to the fantasy epic.

But Martin now plans to buckle down and get the books finished, even vowing to let himself be locked up in order to get it down.

Demand for Martin to finish the A Song of Ice and Fire series has spiked after fans were left unsatisfied with the conclusion of Game of Thrones.

More than a million fans signed a petition calling for the final season to be remade, claiming it was poorly written.

In a previous blog post Martin said that his novels would have a different ending to the TV show because of the “butterfly effect”.
