It doesn’t matter who ends up sitting on the Iron Throne because Game Of Thrones itself is the biggest winner from the final season.
Not only are rating figures through the roof but streaming numbers for earlier seasons are rocketing up as people either try to catch up or refresh their memory as to what happened.
Foxtel reports fans have watched an astonishing 5.69 million hours of the first seven seasons.
The first episode of season eight has a cumulative audience of 1.418m viewers that set a new record, beating the first episode of season seven, which pulled in 1.350m.
And book sales have also jumped, with the first book A Game Of Thrones shooting back to number one on the Dymocks fantasy book charts, despite it being out for more than 23 years.
Given 2.7 million copies of George RR Martin’s book series have already been sold, it appears the final season had created a new wave of fans.
