The Ministry of Environment and Fulton Hogan Hiways has visited those living near the Asphalt Plant in Resevoir Road in Suva and reassured them that there is no health risk following concerns received regarding smoke emissions from the Plant.
Emissions and Environmental pollution expert from the University of the South Pacific Francis Mani also carried tests and says the emissions were only 20%of those that were safely allowed by the World Health Organisation and that the emissions were basically steam.
Fulton Hogan Hiways General Manager Patrick Keenan says that the company is committed to safety.
Keenam says that this does not just involve roads works and people but the machinery and the community in which it operates.
