Sail for Water, a French NGO installed 100 water filters in some villages of Koro Island over the last five days.
Romain Sainte, Nicolas Sainte and Thomas Degernann are the founders of this NGO, who set sail from France ten months ago, distributing water filters to those countries who were spotted to be having water problems.
He confirmed that it cost them US$7,500 to install the filters on Koro Island.
Romain says that Mudu, Nacamaki and Nasau were the villages which received the water filters.
Nicolas explains that they first distributed the filters to the households in the villages and then explained to a few men on how to implement, use and maintain these filters.
He says that if used properly, these filters can last for five years.
Romain says that contaminated water is the number one cause of deaths around the world and this is why their NGO is aiming to promote access to clean drinking water.
Before coming to Fiji, they distributed filters to Africa, Haiti, Panama, Ecuador and Tahiti.
The team will set sail for PNG today.
