Free screening for people with disabilities started in the Northern Division yesterday.
Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation Mereseini Vuniwaqa says the main aim of this screening is to take stock of the types of disabilities we have and for the specialists to assess those who may be able to be helped through corrective surgery and to give them that option.
A team of specialized doctors from India are in the country to conduct health checks and screening for persons living with disabilities where they will be visiting disability centres around the country and conducting checkups on eye diseases and visual problems, illnesses and injuries that affect bones and muscles.A total of 100 people are expected to be screened in the Northern Division.
The screening will be conducted for a period of 2 weeks beginning in Labasa then Suva and concluding in the Western Division.
