Calls have been made for pharmacies to be opened in remote areas where people are finding difficulties in accessing medicine.
The Director of Nands Group of Companies, Abhay Nand said nearly all shopping centers between Suva and Nausori have pharmacies but there are remote areas where there are no pharmacies.
He made the comments while speaking at the launch of government's free medicine initiative at Super Drug Pharmacy in Nabua today.
Assistant Minister for Health, Veena Bhatnagar said she will take this message to the government.
49 private pharmacies have been designated to provide medicine under the scheme.
Bhatnagar added over 2,000 cards have been printed and are now being given to individuals. The Ministry of Health has received 12,209 applications so far.
She also revealed that 48 types of medicine have been dispatched to the pharmacies while the remaining 24 will be distributed by the end of June.
People earning $30,000 and below can register for this program and the forms can be obtained from health facilities around the country.
