Government Whip Ashneel Sudhakar says the foundation of Fiji’s first genuine democracy is the 2013 constitution.
He says under the 1970 constitution, the elections were based on racial lines and this was replaced by the 1990 Constitution that entrenched the racial demarcation further.
Sudhakar says the 1997 constitution was also a racial constitution as it had race based elections.
He says this proves that Fiji was never a genuine democracy.
