A former special constable has been sentenced to three years imprisonment after being convicted of three counts of bribery by Lautoka High Court, Judge Justice Aruna Aluthge.
Rohinesh Ranjan Prasad whilst having three suspects detained in a cell at the Nadi Police Station pending their court hearing, approached them and offered to arrange bail for them and in return Prasad took $300 from each suspect, between the 20th and 22nd of January 2014.
Justice Aluthge further stated that Prasad had also approached the prosecutor and had informed her that there were recoveries and that she should not object to bail.
He adds that in committing these crimes Prasad has betrayed the trust and confidence reposed to him by the Fiji Police Force.
Prasad has also been fined $1,000.
