A former police officer who is charged with allegedly raping a 15‑yr‑old girl in Navua in February last year has told the Suva High Court that he was in an intimate relationship with the victim.
While being cross examined by the defence today, the 32 year old accused said that he developed a close relationship with the victim three months before the alleged incident occurred.
The accused said that he had sexual intercourse with the victim on three occasions and she showed no signs of refusal while they had sex.
He said he did not know that the girl was 15-years-old and he never asked anyone about her age.
The accused said the girl always used to look big and old as she was always with the women from the village.
He also said that he had never seen her in school uniform.
The accused also said that the girl’s step father called him one day to ask him if there was anything going on between the girl and the former police officer.
However he denied this as he said that he has a family.
The former police officer is charged with one count of rape and one count of indecent assault.
