A former police officer of Border Police who raped his 18-year-old step daughter over a four-year period has been sentenced to 10 years and four months imprisonment by the Lautoka High Court.
The 42-year-old man who was charged with three counts of rape and two counts of indecent assault pleaded guilty to the charges before Judge Justice Sudharshana De Silva last week.
The court heard that the man started to commit the offence from September 2010 when the victim was in Form 3.
The last incident took place in February 2014 which was witnessed by the victim’s younger sister who informed her mother about the incident.
The High Court Judge while delivering his sentence said that the victim was subjected to more than one sexual act and there was a breach of trust between a step-father and a daughter.
Justice De Silva has also issued a permanent Domestic Violence Restraining Order against the former police officer and ordered him not to have any contact with the person directly or by any other means unless directed by the court.
He has to serve nine years and six months before he is eligible for parole.
