A former employee of the iTaukei Affairs Board appeared in the Labasa Magistrates Court yesterday on corruption‑related offences.
FICAC charged Taniela Jerema with one count each of obtaining a financial advantage and causing a loss for offences allegedly committed between September 2016 and March 2017.
It is alleged that he unlawfully acquired $9,280 when he was employed as the Assistant Provincial Treasurer for the Bua Provincial Council.
The amount was initially received as payments made by individuals to the various accounts held by the Council, and instead of depositing it accordingly, Jerema allegedly kept it for himself.
Magistrate, Timoci Qalinauci has granted him bail with a bail bond of $500.
A Stop Departure Order has also been issued.
The matter has been adjourned to the 8th of next month.
