An investigation that began in June last year has resulted in a 30-year-old farmer of Kadavu facing six counts of theft for allegedly dishonestly appropriating cash and stock while employed as a Post Master in Ono‑I‑Lau.
Police say the investigation conducted by crime personnel at Totogo Police Station has seen almost a year of gathering statements and relevant documents whereby the accused is alleged to have dishonestly appropriated cash and stock amounting to over $98,000.
The alleged incident occurred between October 2014 and May 2016.
A report was lodged by the Manager Audit of Post Fiji in June last year when an audit conducted at the Ono‑i‑Lau Post Office revealed shortage of cash and stock.
The accused, Jesoni Tukuca was arrested from his village in Kadavu last week and charged with six counts of theft.
Tukuca has been granted bail by Chief Magistrate, Usaia Ratuvili.
The plea will be taken on the 15th of June.
