Former Assistant Superintendent of Police Rehana Sen will spend the next 18 months in prison after she was convicted of Asking for a Bribe.
While sentencing Sen, Chief Magistrate Usaia Ratuvili told the court that he finds no exceptional circumstances in which to suspend this sentence.
He says the court will not condone these types of offences.
The court heard that between 30th September to 3rd October 2012 while being employed in the public service as an Assistant Superintendent of Police, Sen without lawful authority or reasonable excuse, asked for a benefit of $3,000 for herself.
It was also heard that she asked for the benefit with the intention of fostering or sustaining a belief that the exercise of her duties as a public official will be influenced.
