A former Assistant Superintendent of Police, Rehana Sen has been convicted of a charge of Asking for a Bribe by the Suva Magistrates Court.
FICAC laid the charge against Sen.
The court heard that between 30th September to 3rd October 2012 while being employed in the public service as an Assistant Superintendent of Police, Sen without lawful authority or reasonable excuse, asked for a benefit of $3,000 for herself.
It was also heard that she asked for the benefit with the intention of fostering or sustaining a belief that the exercise of her duties as a public official will be influenced.
On 1st October 2012, the accused asked a Praveena Devi for a loan of $3000.
The two had met for the first time at Nabua Police Station on 30th September 2012 when Devi’s boyfriend was in custody. He was later released from custody.
The accused had denied the allegation and the matter was called for trial.
The matter will be called on 16 June 2015 for mitigation and sentencing submissions.
