The Parliamentary Secretary for Foreign Affairs and Trade of Australia, Steven Ciobo is in the country for a two-day official visit and to sign a Memorandum of Understanding on the Seasonal Worker Program.
Ciobo is expected to sign the MOU with the Minister for Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations Jioji Konrote.
Fiji’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Ratu Inoke Kubuabola who met with the Parliamentary Secretary thanked the Australian Government for providing short‑term employment opportunities to Fijians through their Seasonal Worker Scheme.
Kubuabola said the signing of the MOU by the Parliamentary Secretary with the Minister for Employment, Konrote will mark Fiji's inclusion in the Australian Seasonal Worker Program.
Kubuabola said Fiji’s desire is to see an increase in the number of Fijians and Pacific Island Countries (PICs) quota under the scheme.
Kubuabola and Ciobo also discussed the strengthening of bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
The Parliamentary Secretary is also scheduled to meet with the Minister for Industry, Trade and Tourism, Faiyaz Koya, and the Speaker of Parliament, Dr. Jiko Luveni, which will also include a parliamentary tour.
