The Vodafone Flying Fijians have caused a major upset as they beat fifth ranked Scotland 27-22 at the ANZ Stadium.

Fiji’s flyhalf Ben Volavola scored 17 points after he kicked five penalties and a conversion.

Fiji was leading 11-7 half time.

Fiji’s try in the first half was scored by Peceli Yato after a Ben Volavola cross kick found Patrick Osborne on the wing who beat one tackler and off loaded to Yato who powered his way to the try line.

Scotland’s try was scored by their veteran hooker Ross Ford.

In the second half, Fiji scored another penalty as they led 14-7 before Scotland’s fullback Ruaridh Jackson scored and converted his own try to level the scores.

Straight after the kick off, Fiji was awarded a penalty as Volavola successfully added three more points and Fiji led 17-14.

Scotland levelled the scores with a penalty of their own.

Replacement halfback Henry Seniloli scored the winning try after a trade mark Leone Nakarawa break and the offload created the space for Seniloli as he raced through to score.

Volavola converted as Fiji led 24-17 before he added another penalty for Fiji to increase the lead to 27-17.

Scotland’s replacement Hooker Fraser Marshall scored Scotland’s consolation try to bring the score to 27-22.

Debutant winger Josua Tuisova was immense with his carries as he made some trademark runs throughout the match and made some hard hitting tackles.

Fiji’s Coach John Mckee says he is overwhelmed with the victory and the team’s performance was lifted with the inclusion of Tuisova, Patrick Osborne and Peceli Yato.
