Rivers need to be dredged to prevent flooding but it requires millions of dollars.
This was highlighted by the Attorney General and Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum at the 2017/2028 National Budget Consultation at Tailevu North College in Korovou.
Sayed-Khaiyum says they are looking into a huge game change in terms of water way throughout Fiji.
He says the water way, rivers and streams that never used to flood before are now flooding because of erosion but dredging will stop the flooding.
Sayed-Khaiyum says the responsibility of dredging and drainage is shifted to the Ministry for Agriculture.
He says there is also a drainage board that is currently looking at how this can work together in a concerted effort.
