Five men who were charged with two counts of act with intent to cause grievous harm, one count of aggravated robbery and one count of damaging property have been sentenced for more than ten years by the Lautoka High Court.
Peni Yalibula and Tevita Qaqanivalu have been sentenced to 11 years imprisonment and they will be eligible for parole after serving 8 years in jail.
Mikaele Turaganivalu, Rusiate Uluibau and Ulaiasi Qalomai have been given a sentence of ten years and they will be eligible for parole after serving eight years in jail.
It was alleged that on April 6th in 2014 the five men robbed assorted liquor and cigarettes worth $4,700 and took $5,300 cash from a shop at Martintar in Nadi.
It was also alleged that they damaged assorted liquor, juice, a computer, dried kava, and one cash register all worth $6,609.
It was also alleged the five wounded the shop owner and and his security guard kicking and striking them brutally with bottles.
The CCTV footages obtained from cameras helped the police to identify these men who were later arrested.
