More than 1,500 people were at a standing ovation at the RFMF Band Centennial Anniversary Military Tattoo at the National Stadium last night.
Forming a mass band for the celebrations, the RFMF Band was joined by the Fiji Police Force Band and the National Youth Band.
The legacy of the RFMF Band grew when engaged during WW2 where Band members also served as stretcher bearers during combats and an act depicting the Band’s role during the war was also part of the celebrations.
There was also an acknowledgement for the 795 men and women who are serving on Peace Keeping Duties in various missions around the world.
There are 145 Fijian soldiers in Lebanon, 168 in Iraq, 307 soldiers in Syria and 5 in South Sudan, these soldiers will be spending Christmas in these countries away from their families.
Also present at the RFMF Band Centennial Anniversary Military Tattoo was President, Jioji Konrote, Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama, Former President, Ratu Epeli Nailatikau, Employment Minister, Jone Usamate RFMF Commander, Viliame Naupoto and other senior military and government officials.
